This weekend, I’m going to miss out on the only gambling activity that I really enjoy. Once annually, my bucolic hometown hosts a parade and celebration of it’s own coolness - and they have cow chip bingo. This involves a cow, a field demarcated by a grid work painted on the grass, and the collective patience of the audience.
While I was at the Fremont Fair this last weekend seeing the Sashimi Tabernacle Choir, I witnessed the after-effects of that morning’s Solstice Parade. One of the traditional “Floats” is a group of painted but otherwise wholly naked people riding bicycles.
It’s Seattle.
I told my Grandmother about this and she laughed, then speculated on the reception they would get if the family business entered a similar Float in the bucolic-hometown-coolness Parade. I would enjoy seeing that. Especially if they continued to throw candy to the sideline as usual.
